Center
for the Prevention of School Violence
The Center was established in 1993 in answer to a series
of public hearings across North Carolina about the increasing problem
of violence in our schools. Originally established as a component
of the Governor's Crime Commission in North Carolina Department of
Crime Control and Public Safety, the Center now serves as a primary
point of contact for anyone interested in stemming school violence.
In just a few years, the Center has gained national prominence from
its comprehensive research and innovative program support.
The Center’s efforts are directed at providing:
|
|
Information
and materials concerning the prevention of school violence so
that problems can be better identified and solutions can be developed; |
|
|
Program
development and implementation expertise and technical support
to schools, law enforcement agencies, and communities so that
programs have excellent chances of success; |
|
|
Research
and evaluation of school violence prevention programs so that
schools and communities are better able to address their specific
needs in effective action. |
The
Center's vision is that "every student will attend a school that is
safe and secure, one that is free of fear and conducive to learning."
